Process principle of Short Path Molecular Distillation
Molecular distillation is a liquid-liquid separation technology that is different from the traditional boiling point separation principle. It achieves separation based on the difference in the mean free path of molecular motion of each substance in the mixture. In an ideal state (high vacuum environment) when the liquid mixture flows along the heating plate and is heated, light and heavy molecules will escape from the liquid surface and enter the gas phase. Because the free paths of light and heavy molecules are different under ideal conditions, Therefore, molecules of different substances move at different distances after escaping from the liquid surface. When a condensing plate is properly set, light molecules reach the condensing plate and are condensed and discharged, while heavy molecules cannot reach the condensing plate and are discharged along the mixed liquid. In this way, the purpose of separating substances can be achieved. Based on this principle, people have designed falling film, centrifugal, wiped film and other evaporators. These evaporators have a common feature that the distance between the evaporation surface and the condensation surface is very short, from the molecules that overflow from the evaporation surface to the condensation. The journey into liquid is very short, so it is called short path molecular distillation.
